Drupal Internet Explorer 6 has a hard limit of 31 CSS files

Blog | Nov. 4, 2009

I don’t know what’s worse, that Drupal Internet Explorer has an arbitrary limit on how many CSS files it can include, or that we’re developing a website with 32 separate CSS files.

  1. I don’t want to tell ya how to do your job, but you might be doing it wrong.

  2. Surprisingly, it’s not a drupal limit, it’s an internet explorer limit (in its infinite wisdom).

Look at http://drupal.org/project/unlimited_css for a fix for that. The alternative is turning on css caching, but obviously that’s not feasible during development.

I haven’t seen Drupal itself complain about css limits though. Is it specific to a particular theme?

Thanks for setting me straight Aaron, I should have guess it was something to do with Internet Explorer before I blamed our CMS. Drupal has been cleared of any wrongdoing. 🙂
